James McBride could write a how-to book about growing kale indoors and I’d read it. Heaven & Earth is wonderful.

Does he have any other books you’ve also enjoyed?

Deacon King Kong, as I think you mentioned. The Good Lord Bird was my first. I want to read The Color of Water - it’s on my list.

I have to say that This is Happiness was a truly awesome book and I'm glad I read it. I only hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 💖📚

Reviews from our book club on Heaven & Earth Grocery Store were mixed, but I loved it. I think it was helpful to know generally what the book was about before diving in (a community of Jewish & African Americans coming together to help a fairing impaired young boy). I say this, because in the beginning, there are a lot of quirky characters that can weigh you down until you understand the cultural issues at work in the town in which the novel takes place. Happy Reading!
