10 Christian Books for Daily Reading in 2026
My best recommendations for daily devotionals to engage your heart with the gospel in the coming year
For many of the years in the past decade, I have read through some kind of daily devotional. I find it to be a helpful means of accountability and consistency in my time with the Lord even as I’m reading other books, doing other Bible studies, or exploring Scripture in some other capacity. If you are looking for a new one or are considering trying a daily devotional for the first time, here are 10 of my best recommendations. Many of them also include an optional plan that guides you through reading through the whole Bible in a year.
Take Heart: Daily Devotions to Deepen Your Faith by David Powlison
If I could only have one daily devotional for the rest of my life, this would be it. I don’t know of any other recently living person who has encouraged my heart more than Dr. David Powlison. He is with Jesus now, but his writing continues to be a blessing.
Things Unseen: One Year of Reflections on the Christian Life by Sinclair B. Ferguson
This was my 2025 daily devotional, and it was nothing but blessing every day. It has 5 readings per week for 52 weeks, so you take the weekends off. If you prefer audio input, this is based on Dr. Ferguson’s podcast of the same name, so you can listen along while you read.
New Morning Mercies: A Daily Gospel Devotional by Paul David Tripp
I have read through this devotional in multiple years and have also gifted it to family and friends. It is one of my top recommendations for moms of young kids who feel like they don’t have time to read the Bible. There is an assigned Scripture reading for each day, but if you’re short on time, you can just read the gospel-focused reading.
52 Weeks in the Word: A Companion for Reading Through the Bible in a Year by Trillia Newbell
This is my choice for 2026, although I did already start it in hopes that it would buy me a bit of margin to be able to finish it by the end of 2026. I like it so far because it has 6 days of reading for each week, giving you a day to catch up if needed. The weeks also aren’t assigned to dates, so if you miss a week, you can just pick back up. Each day you end up reading 3-5 chapters of Scripture, starting in Genesis. There is space to write reflections based on some questions the author provides, and there is also space in the book to write a prayer. This book isn’t magic, and you could read the Bible in a year without it, but I am appreciating the accountable of filling in the reflection each day.
God’s Wisdom for Navigating Life: A Year of Daily Devotions in the Book of Proverbs by Timothy Keller
I haven’t read used this book, but as Dr. Keller was one of the wisest men who has lived during my lifetime, I can only imagine his reflections on the book of Proverbs to be valuable.
The Songs of Jesus: A Year of Daily Devotions in the Psalms by Timothy Keller
If Proverbs isn’t appealing to you for this coming year, then you could also try this Psalms devotional, also by Tim Keller.
The One Year Praying through the Bible for Your Kids: A Daily Devotional for Parents with 365 Scripture Readings, Reflections, and Prayer Prompts by Nancy Guthrie
I have this book and have used it as a prayer guide, although I’ve never done the Bible reading along with it. Each day has a plan for reading through the whole Bible in a year; a reading based on the Scripture assigned to that day; and a prayer for your child(ren) based on the Scripture reading. This book is so rich and would be wonderful for any parent or grandparent, no matter how old the “children” are!
For the Love of God: A Daily Companion for Discovering the Riches of God’s Word by D.A. Carson
This book is essentially a Bible reading plan with a reading each day that is related to one of the passage you’re supposed to read from Scripture. Each day includes a reading from at least 4 different chapters of Scripture across the Old and New Testament.
Note: This is Volume 1, there is also a Volume 2.
Holiness Day by Day: Transformational Thoughts for Your Spiritual Journey by Jerry Bridges
This book pulls sections for daily reading from Jerry Bridges’ prolific writing. I had the pleasure of hearing Jerry Bridges speak in person before he passed away, and I can’t think of many other modern authors who have so contributed to my spiritual growth.
Truth for Life: 365 Daily Devotions by Alistair Begg
I am currently reading Alistair Begg’s Advent devotional and love it. If I didn’t already have a plan for a daily devotional in 2026, I would use this one. In addition to daily readings centered on the gospel, it also includes a plan for reading through the Bible in a year. Another thing I like about these devotionals by Alistair Begg is that the hardcover versions are lovely. They are so pleasant to hold and read.
Note: This is Volume 1; there is also a Volume 2.
I’d love to know if you have ever used any of these daily devotionals, or if there is another one you’d recommend!

I’ve been leaning towards spending 2026 in the Psalms, and Keller’s book sounds like the perfect companion. Thanks for the recommendation!
