Hi, I’m Chelsey.
I’ve been writing since I was the same age as my daughter is in the above photo (7). There are dozens of journals in my parents’ attic, and I have my own stock of journals I’ve kept as an adult. I studied journalism and psychology in college, and since then have done a variety of writing related jobs, including editing and content writing. That has mostly been in the fringe moments, because another big part of my life is the fact that we have four kids and my husband is a pastor. While I don’t ascribe to the belief that our ministry at our church should consume our life, I do believe all of life is ministry, so we joyfully pour ourselves out for our church and community. My hobbies include reading, exercising, and needlework. I’m an Enneagram 6, an introvert, and I have my own little room (closet) that I affectionately refer to as the Dopamine Den. It’s where all my best work happens.
While I reserve the right to write about whatever I want, most of my posts fall into four categories: books, mental health, ministry, and personal essays. Here’s an example in each category so you can get a taste for what you’re in for if you become a free or paid subscriber!

How to Handle Stress in Pastoral Ministry
This post is part of a series I’m doing in October on pastoral ministry. If you’re new here, my husband is currently the lead pastor of a church outside Savannah, Georgia. We’ve been in full-time ministry since 2009, and he’s been an ordained pastor for almost 10 years. I am writing out of our experience in hopes that it will encourage those in ministry…
The curious incident of the vase in the ballroom
“When I come back, I have some questions about your post today,” said Matt as he walked out of the room to help one of his kids. It took me a minute to register what he was talking about, because my Substack exists in a compartmentalized part of my brain that doesn’t always interact with the real world. I also didn’t know that Matt, our friend/community…
